About Next Stage Theatre Company & The Mission Theatre:
Next Stage Theatre Company has built an enviable national reputation since its founding in 1994. The company’s work has been recognised by patrons Sir Alan Ayckbourn, Sir David Hare, Dame Harriet Walter, and Robert Lindsay.
In 2004, Next Stage acquired a lease on a derelict chapel and created The Mission Theatre situated in the south of the city. The Mission has two auditoria and enables Next Stage, the resident company, to produce most of its plays in-the-round. The theatre is popular with many local groups and also welcomes companies from across the UK. In June 2021 BANES awarded a Community Asset Transfer to Next Stage for The Mission, thus securing the future of the theatre in perpetuity. Next Stage acquired Burdall’s Yard, in September 2021, situated to the north of the city as a partner venue. With three vibrant performance spaces, and a welcoming bar/café area, Burdall’s Yard is a community centre and arts hub which opened in March 2022.
