It’s St George’s Day, the morning of the local county fair; Johnny “Rooster” Byron, local waster and modern-day Pied Piper, is a wanted man embattled in the Wessex woodland. Facing eviction from his dilapidated mobile home, Rooster has little time to enjoy the annual pageant.

Twin boys – Mickey and Edward – are separated at birth. They meet again by chance as seven-year-olds and become firm friends despite the class and culture divide between them.

Teenager, Christopher Boone finds his neighbour’s dog Wellington, speared to death by a garden fork. Upset at the loss of a favourite animal and under suspicion himself of the crime, Christopher decides to find out who killed Wellington.
