84, Charing Cross Road by Helene Hanff adapted by James Roose-Evans

Two of Next Stage’s most accomplished actors return to the intimacy of The Theatre Upstairs with this delightful play about a literary love affair between an American writer Helene Hanff and an Englishman, Frank Doel, who works for the antiquarian book shop Marks & Co.

Caroline Groom takes the role of Helene with George Gent playing Frank. Their fascinating friendship spans 20 years from 1949-1969. Whilst events in the play are set against a canvas of the dramatic post-war changes taking place during that time, the true story is of two people, separated by an ocean, who come to value and eagerly anticipate each others letters, and who long to meet. “This is the rarest of theatrical events, a good and happy play about good and happy people”.
