Living With Lady Macbeth by Rob John

Easily enjoyed and hard to forget
— N Wilkins, Bath Chronicle

This 'riveting' production, an intriguing take on the 'play about a play', follows a schoolgirl in her attempts to break into the inner circle of performers in her school's annual stage production. To succeed, she will have to outface and outperform her peer group who have bullied her throughout her school days.

Lily Morgan never gets cast in the school productions. But on a school trip to see Macbeth, Lily is captivated by the character of Lady Macbeth. She resolves to audition for that role in her school production of the play. But she has competition, and the other girls have experience and attitude. What's more, her mother and brother, and even her boyfriend, aren't exactly supportive.

Rob John has woven an absorbing play about bullies and bullied alike. Set both in Lily's imagination, where some of her darkest dreams come true, and in the real world, the play explores, with an equal blend of comedy, drama and pathos, the emergence of a person changed by her own actions and able to stand tall and confident after years of living in the shadows.

This is Next Stage Youth at its creative best, using its artistic talents to take the audience on a Shakespearean roller-coaster ride with a witty and thought-provoking story that is accessible to young and old alike.
