At the heart of the play is the theme of "betrayal". Betrayal of ourselves, of each other and how we in turn are betrayed by our institutions. Betrayal can take many forms and it is not always obviously that we have been betrayed, or are being betrayed. On many occasions, as in this play, the act of betrayal can masquerade as "kindness", "common sense", or a "business necessity", but for the victims of betrayal, whatever the motive, the results can have a devastating effect on relationships, beliefs and even lives.
