Amadeus by Peter Shaffer

Each of the actors plays a part in making this one of the best shows we are likely to see anywhere in Bath this year
— Christopher Hansford, Bath Chronicle

“Amadeus is probably the most successful play of the last half century. It has triumphed everywhere..and is a clear-eyed celebration of Mozart and his music.
Wolfgang is of course dangerous to let on the stage, because playwright and actors have to live up to a creativity that is almost superhuman... Shaffer’s play analyses with compassion and wit how desperately ordinary most of us are. For however talented we may secretly think ourselves to be, we remain in the great scheme of things relative mediocrities.” (Sir Peter Hall)

“A gripping, intriguing study of the roots of envy and the haphazard nature of genius…it is stuffed full of exquisite visual images and those soaring snatches of Mozart’s music that combine to make this a great theatrical occasion.”
(The Standard.)

John Matthews is Salieri, Ben Kettner is Mozart, with a supporting cast drawn from the award-winning Next Stage Theatre Company and using costumes from the West End production. Innovatively staged in Bath’s acclaimed Mission Theatre this will be a celebration of the 250th anniversary of Mozart’s birth that no one should miss.
