Dealing with Clair by Martin Crimb

Tense, funny and topical
— Angela Goodman, Bath Chronicle

Dealing with Clair is set at a time when property prices are spiraling ever upwards and makes a significant comment on life in a society in which cash values are paramount. Liz and Mike want to sell their property at a good profit but keep their principles intact. When a cash buyer comes along they have a moral decision to make; in a world of greed, is it OK to gazump their disabled buyer?

Clair, their estate agent, is herself unsure of the morality of her work and of the way she is leading her life. James appears and offers a vision of a very different and possibly more desirable world.

The play offers the audience an opportunity to observe the interplay of the characters’ commercial and sexual greed and fears. The story however develops in an enigmatic and unexpected way.

Written in 1988 at the height of the Thatcher era, the issues and themes of the play are perhaps even more relevant now than they were then.
