Private Lives by Noel Coward

Private+Lives.jpg

Private Lives is, possibly, the best known and loved of Noel Coward's plays. The leading parts of Elyot and Amanda were originally created by Noel Coward and Gertrude Lawrence abd their chemically charged portrayal of these two lovers made Private Lives an overnight success.

Meeting on their respective honeymoons to different partners, following the break-up of their own marriage 5 years before, Elyot and Amanda are irresistibly drawn back together. Throwing caution to the winds they leave their new partners and, escaping to Paris, attempt to find a successful way of harnessing their mutual passion for each other. With its witty dialogue, simmering emotions and incisive comments on marriage, fidelity and relationships Private Lives is as relevant today as it was avant garde in 1930.
