Ann Garner and Next Stage recognised in People of the Year awards

Posted: Thursday 05 January, 2012

For the last three years, the Bath Chronicle has published a series of awards at the end of December to celebrate the achievements of local people. There are various categories designed to highlight the range and versatility of the people of Bath, including community work, sports, the arts and business.

Next Stage is delighted to have received two nominations this year. Ann Garner, Artistic Director of the company, is a runner-up for Woman of the Year after raising £50,000 in record time to provide extended backstage facilities at The Mission. The company itself was a runner-up for Show of the Year with The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, with the following accolade printed in the Chronicle:

"Even by the company's own exacting standards the Next Stage production with Caroline Groom in the leading role was sensational. They played at The Mission Theatre in Bath and then took to play down to The Minack clifftop theatre in Cornwall during the summer."

Ann and Next Stage have been honoured to have received nominations in each year of the awards' history. In 2008 Ann won the title of Arts Person of the Year, in 2009 Torch Song Trilogy won the Show of the Year category, and in 2010 Ann was a runner up for Arts Person of the Year award.
