Two separate casts as Next Stage youngsters perform Blood Brothers

Posted: Friday 21 October, 2011

The original play Blood Brothers by Willy Russell gets a new airing next week having been chosen by Next Stage Youth for its autumn production.

Two different casts are involved because of the large number of youngsters at the Mission Theatre who are keen to get experience of going on stage in a tip top production.

The show opens next Tuesday at the Mission and runs until the Saturday. Philip Davies, winner of the 2010 Bridget Casse Award for Excellence in Youth Theatre, is the puppeteer narrator.

The Blood Brothers story centres around twin boys Mickey and Edward who are separated at birth but who meet by chance as seven year olds and become firm friends despite their great class divide.

They ultimately fall in love with the same woman and tragedy lurks as Mickey becomes increasingly jealous of Eddie and finally takes the law into his own hands.

Willy Russell's original version of Blood Brothers has sparkling dialogue and characteristic wit that have become the writer's trademark and includes the classic hit Dancing Like Marilyn Monroe from the later musical version of the play. However, an atmospheric score for the Next Stage Youth production is provided for this show by musical director Carl Speck.

Tickets cost £10 and £8 on 01225 428600 or 01225 463362.
