Bridget Casse

1948 - 2010.

A service of celebration will take place on 13th April, 2pm at St Swithin's Church.

Anyone who has known Bridget will be welcome.

Bridget was a much loved and respected member of Next Stage Theatre Company from 1994 until her sad death in March 2010.

As one of the company’s leading actresses, Bridget had an impressive range of talents, as she demonstrated in many of the key roles she took in the company’s productions. Bridget’s timing and sense of comedy were apparent in such memorable roles as ‘Annie’ - The Norman Conquests 1996 - and ‘Dotty Otley’ - Noises Off 1999. Bridget entertained appreciative audiences with compassionate performances in such roles as ‘Miss Ruddock’- A Lady of Letters 2000 and 2008- and ‘Meg’- The Birthday Party 2007.

When not starring in a play, Bridget was always prepared to take a supporting role and brought the same enthusiasm, professionalism and dedication to the smallest role as she did to the largest.

Bridget’s involvement with Next Stage was not only as an actor. She was an avid researcher and proof-reader, advised on music and pronunciation, helped backstage and was also keenly involved with the company’s youth theatre.

Bridget met fellow Next Stager Alan Cassé twelve years ago and they married in 2006. The couple were at their happiest when working together on a production, particularly if performing in Bridget’s beloved Minack Theatre.

The last role Bridget played for Next Stage was Miss Ruddock in Alan Bennett’s A Lady of Letters. The play ends with these words:

“There’s my little clock ticking and I can hear the wind in the poplar trees by the playing field and maybe it’s raining and I’m sitting there. And I’m so happy.”

And whenever she was on stage Bridget truly was happy.

Rest in Peace
